Em Agosto
nós tínhamos nossas férias e voltamos para a Europa. Visitamos a nossa família
na Finlândia, tínhamos um casamento em Salzburg na Áustria e depois visitamos
Grécia onde fizemos uma semana de ferias reais na ilha de Creta.
Na
Finlândia, em geral, passamos o tempo visitando amigos e família, mas nas ultimas
vezes tentamos fazer uma mini-viagem turística em algum lugar na Finlândia. O
marido é grego e durante esses quase 20 anos que estamos juntos ele já teve
oportunidade de conhecer alguns lugares, mas ainda têm muitas que ele não visitou.
Dessa vez organizamos uma viagem com alguns amigos para Hanko, uma cidade
pequena no litoral da Finlândia.
Eu tinha visitado Hanko quando era criança e depois, acho que foi dois anos
atrás que visitei de novo com uma amiga. Na ultima vez que visitei, estava
muito positivamente surpreendida como Hanko é legal. Em geral as cidades
pequenas na Finlândia não são muito bem orientadas para turismo, mas Hanko é o contrario.
Tem bastantes opções de restaurantes bons e até vívida vida noturna.
Isso tudo faz sentido porque Hanko tem tradição de ser uma destinação turística. Quando a Finlândia era parte autónomo do império Russo (até 1917) Hanko era uma destinação popular para passear entre a nobreza russa. A cidade tinha um spa que infelizmente não existe mais e ainda tem um casino e muitas vilas antigas lindonas dessa época.

As maiores
atrações na cidade são as praias e o mar. Muitas pessoas chegam a Hanko para
navegar. Eu não sei navegar então só usei
meu tempo passeando nas praias e na cidade. Pode parece como uma ideia bem
estranha mas na realidade você pode ir na praia e você pode nadar no mar da
Finlândia. Quando tem um tempo bom é muito agradável.
Eu gosto
muito de Hanko e na minha opinião vale pena visitá-la se você estiver na
Finlândia durante o verão. É só mais ou menos duas horas de carro de Helsinki.

Onde ficar?
Perto do
spa, que não existe mais, eles construíram uma área cheia de vilas. Para mim,
quando você visita em Hanko, o único lugar onde deve ficar é nesse bairro.
Algumas dessas vilas funcionam como pousadas hoje em dia.
Eu fiquei
duas vezes na Villa Tellina e já ouvi falar que a Villa Maija é boa também. A Villa
Tellina é uma pousada bem tradicional. Tem essa atmosfera de tempos passados. Os
quartos são muito básicos e a maioria deles só tem banheiros no corredor (tem poucos
com banheiro no quarto também) mas se você está buscando uma experiência
original, Villa Tellina é uma boa opção.
Onde comer?
Acho que o
lugar mais legal para sair é no centro da cidade no Porto Leste onde tem os
armazéns antigos. Tem vários restaurantes lá.
- Restaurante Origo: Comida tradicional finlandesa com
oportunidade de experimentar os frutos do mar do arquipélago finlandês. Eu comi
lá um sopa de salmão muito gostosa.
- Restaurante På Kroken: Tem
um conceito muito parecido com Restaurante Origo, mas é situada em porto de Hangonkylä que é um pouco fora do centro da cidade. O restaurante é especializado em peixe
e frutos do mar. Eu comi lá uma solha defumada que estava muito boa.
Quando você
está perto do arquipélago finlandês acho que vale a pena experimentar as
delicias de lá mas em Hanko têm outras opções também.
Classic Pizza: Se você já teve oportunidade de experimentar os
frutos do mar em algum outro lugar e sentir muita falta de pizza, eles têm
pizza muito boa. (No Porto Leste)
Hanko Sushi: Eles têm sushi gostoso. O restaurante é tão
popular que já se tornou numa cadeia de restaurantes. (No Casino de Hanko)
Para café/ almoço
Neljän Tuulen Tupa:
Para visitar o café você pode ir andando do centro passando o bairro com as
Vilas e as praias (mais ou menos meia hora a pé ) ou pode dirigir. Acho que o
primeiro jeito é mais legal. O café é situado na praia e tem uma vista linda do
mar.
Onde sair?
Alguns dos
restaurantes em Hanko viram boates a noite. Eu tenho experiência só de dois
deles. Quando nós visitamos Hanko nós começámos a noite em Music Club Makasiinit (a baixo do restaurante Makasiinit). Eles
tinham música ao vivo (tipo rock) que infelizmente não era nossa preferência e
por causa disso trocávamos o lugar para Club
Origo (atrás e acima do restaurante Origo). Lá tinha um dj tocando música
para dançar. Lá nós nos divertimos muito!
Para uma bebida da tarde/ café tem um bar do surf no Casino que é agradável também.

Para fazer:
Como já
falava, Hanko é um lugar para curtir o mar. Pode navegar se você tiver acesso a
um veleiro, curtir a natureza, visitar os faróis ou a torre de água para ver a
vista. Pode passear nas praias, tomar sol e nadar se você tiver sorte para ter um
tempo bom.

European tour- episode 1: Hanko the lovely coastal town in Finland
In August we had our holidays and a we went back to Europe. We visited my family in Finland, had a wedding to attend in Salzburg, Austria and after that we had real holidays in the island of Crete in Greece.
In Finland generally the time passes by visiting friends and family, but in last few visits we have tried to do a touristic mini holiday somewhere in Finland. The hubby is Greek and within the almost 20 years we've been together he has had opportunity to visit some places in Finland, but there still is quite a few to go. This time we arranged a trip with few friends to Hanko, a small town on the coast.
I had visited Hanko when I was small and then again, I think two years ago, with a friend. Last time I visited there I was very positively surprised on how nice Hanko actually is. Usually the small towns in Finland aren't really geared towards tourism but Hanko is different. There are quite a few nice restaurants around and even lively nightlife.
This actually makes sense as Hanko has a tradition of being touristic destination. When Finland was an autonomous part of Russian empire (until 1917) Hanko was a popular destination among the Russian nobles. The town had a spa that unfortunately doesn't exist any more but there still is a casino and many old villas from that epoch.
The main attractions of the town are beaches and the sea. Many people come to Hanko to sail. I am not into that so I used my time there just by hanging around the beaches and the town. It may sound strange but you can actually go to the beach and swim in the sea in Finland. When the weather is good, it is really pleasant.
I really like Hanko and in my opinion it is worth visiting the town if you find yourself in Finland during the summer. It is just about two hours by car from Helsinki.
Tips
Where to stay?
Close to the spa, which doesn't exist anymore, they constructed an area full of old villas. For me, when visiting Hanko, this is where you should stay. Nowdays some of these villas function as small hotels.
I've stayed twice in Villa Tellina and I also heard that Villa Maija is a nice place as well. Villa Tellina is a very traditional b&b. It really has this atmosphere of times past. The rooms are quite basic and majority are with facilities in the hallway (there are few with bathroom as well) but if you are looking for an authentic experience I think Villa Tellina is a good option.
Where to eat?
I think the nicest place to go out is in the east port where they have some old warehouses turned into restaurants.
Origo: The resturant offers traditional finnish food and you can also try the seafood of the archipelago close by. I ate a really nice salmon soup there.
På Kroken: The concept of the restaurant is very similar to Origo but the restaurant is situated in the port of Hangonkylä which is a bit outside of the centre. The restaurant is specialised in fish and seafood. I ate some smoked sole which was really tasty.
When in seaside it makes sense to try the local delicacies but if you already did, Hanko has other options as well.
Classic Pizza: In the east port serving gourmet pizza.
Hanko Sushi: They have very nice sushi. The restaurant was so popular that it has turned into a chain of restaurants. (In the Casino of Hanko)
For coffee/ lunch:
Neljän Tuulen Tupa: To visit the cafe you can easily walk from the centre via the neighbourhood with the villas passing by the beach (approx. 30 min on foot) or you can drive as well. The first option is really nicer. The cafe is located on a small cape and offers a nice view to the sea.
Where to go out?
Some of the restaurants turn into night clubs at night. I have experience of just two of them. When we visited Hanko we started the night at Music Club Makasiinit (below Makasiinit restaurant). They had live music (rock) that unfortunately wasn't really of our taste so we ended up switching to Club Origo (behind and above restaurant Origo). They had a dj playing some dance music and we really had great time there.
For coffee or afternoon drink there is a surf bar in Casino that is quite comfy as well.
What to do?
As I mentioned Hanko is a place to enjoy the sea. You can sail if you have access to a sailing boat, you can enjoy the nature, visit the lighthouses or the water tower to watch the view. You wan walk on the beaches, get some tan or swim if you are lucky with the weather.
